Welcome to a new year, a new strategy, and a new opportunity to build your community connections. At Neighbourhood Watch we are excited to announce that 2026 is the start of our new five-year strategy, in which you and your scheme are the focus. Over the coming months we will be holding special online events, increasing your knowledge, and providing you with the tools to Watch, Connect and Act.
Thank you for helping us with the strategy
Over the past 14 months, the team has consulted with volunteers like yourself, Associations, Trustees, partners such as police, Police and Crime Commissioners, other charities and Home Office and both government Ministers and Shadow Ministers to develop our new five-year strategy for Neighbourhood Watch.
We are proud of the result and want to thank you for engaging with us on this journey. You helped us by telling us what mattered to you in our survey at the start of 2025, as well as some of you joining our steering group and then to everyone who participated in our strategy segment at our conference in September.
Our future is full of hope, opportunities and connection
As we look ahead, we believe in a Britain where neighbours look out for one another. Where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to build safer, stronger, more welcoming communities – and where loneliness is replaced by trust and connection.
Neighbourhoods bring us together. They connect us to the places we live and the people around us – our streets, villages, towns and cities.
In a fast-paced, digital world, taking time for simple, human connections matters more than ever. A friendly hello, a helping hand or a shared conversation can make a real difference.
Good neighbours turn streets into communities and help create places where everyone feels safer and included.
That’s what Neighbourhood Watch is all about – and we invite everyone to be part of it.
What we want Neighbourhood Watch to achieve
Our goal is to have safer, better connected and active communities and to achieve this we want to concentrate on three key areas.
Bring neighbours together - We will inspire more people to build safer, friendly communities that people feel a part of
Show our impact - We will clearly demonstrate the real difference Neighbourhood Watch makes, through powerful stories and evidence
Be trusted and innovative - We will be recognised as a reliable and forward-thinking organisation, tackling today’s crimes with fresh ideas to build safer, better neighbourhoods
Achieving this together
Over the next five years, we’ll be creating more ways for you to get involved – starting with growing our volunteer programme. We want to work with you to build a national programme that works locally, with flexible opportunities that fit around people’s lives and support communities where they live.
We’re also making sure volunteers have the skills, confidence and resources they need, with more tools and support being added to our Knowledge Hub.
To better show the difference Neighbourhood Watch makes, we’ll make it easier for you to share what you’re doing and the impact it’s having – whether that’s reducing crime, raising awareness, or helping neighbours feel more connected.
Active schemes make communities safer, stronger and more connected – and seeing this in action helps more people get involved locally.
Look out for new online events and updates to the Knowledge Hub coming soon.
The Knowledge Hub is changing – don’t miss out
As part of our ongoing commitment to support our volunteers, we are developing more locally specific content for the Knowledge Hub and making it easier to use and learn from. This includes e-learning (on-line training and support) about being a coordinator and to develop your knowledge. We will be introducing certificated modules for your role as a Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator. Modules will include how to use Alert, keeping your members data safe, recruiting new members, organising local events to bring your neighbours together and crime prevention information and tips.
If you are not yet a member on the Knowledge Hub you can sign up today using this LINK and complete the simple online form.
Save the date! Neighbourhood Watch Week 2026
This year’s Neighbourhood Watch Week is from Monday 1st June to Sunday 7th June 2026. We have a full week of activities to choose from and get involved in promoting the great work of Neighbourhood Watch in your local community.
The theme of this year’s NWW is Watch, Connect and Act and we will be providing a range of ideas for you to get involved in. You can choose different activities for you and your scheme members to get involved in and if every scheme does one activity the impact will be huge across England and Wales.
Whether it's holding a Communi-Tea event, taking part in the Volunteer awards or joining in with the Big Sunday Lunch, or just attending a local event, we will be providing helpful guides and workshops to help you get the best out of the week.
New resources arriving soon in our online shop
In 2025 we conducted some testing on a range of new materials for promoting Neighbourhood Watch to encourage new members to join us. We had not changed our current design since 2022 when we launched the “Better Place to Live” campaign and thought it was about time we did! We will have both postcards and bi-fold leaflets in a new engaging style and format.
Great news, the window stickers have been ordered and will arrive in the shop shortly. There will be a selection of both English and English/Welsh versions available. These have been supported by VISAV, who run the Neighbourhood Alert system.
All of these items will be available in our online shop shortly.
Help inspire volunteers by sharing your stories
Have you organised an event or activity in your scheme that you’d like to share? This could be a litter pick, coffee morning, crime awareness talk, Coffee with a Copper, street party, Easter egg hunt, Christmas tree switch-on – or any activity your members have enjoyed together.
Our Knowledge Hub has a dedicated page where you can share your stories and upload photos. Look on the Your Stories section on the Hub.
By sharing what you’ve been doing, you can inspire other communities to take action too.
You may wish to share this information with your members or just let them know some bits of it. For this reason, we have enabled the newsletter to be shared by yourselves. Remember this is a Volunteer Newsletter so some of the content may not be relevant to your members like our monthly newsletter - Our News.
Best wishes to you all
